Amid all the excitement of the Diamond Jubilee Celebrations, it is easy to forget that sixty years ago, the big event was yet to come-The Coronation. No doubt the Coronation Event will be celebrated by the media next year, and maybe by some communities. As a fore-runner to this, the letter below has been forwarded to the Winsham Web Museum. It was written by Mrs Lily Maud Boait to her daughter Monica, and describes how she and her husband spent the big day in Winsham. Monica lived in Winsham until 1946, when she married and moved to London.
