Time Line1960-1964

The Jubilee Hall gets a new heating system, but raising the money leads the way to the Parish Council loosing control of the Hall's affairs, and its establishment as a registered charity. The Parish Clerk is awarded a salary of £20 pa, together with expenses. Away from Winsham life was exciting, but getting dangerous!

1960-Start of Beatle craze. Forty records and albums making the number one spot made them the most successful group ever.

1960- John F Kennedy becomes youngest  President of the USA

1961- John F. Kennedy starts the space race

1962-Cuban Missile Crisis-the world on the brink of a nuclear holocaust? We thought so at the time!

1963- France vetoes UK membership of the EEC

1963-The Profumo affair shocks and amuses Britain, and seriously damages Harold McMillan's premiership 

1963-John F Kennedy assassinated. Lyndon B Johnson becomes President of USA

1964-Labour regains power and Harold Wilson becomes Prime Minister

1964-Retail Price Maintenance abolished giving impetus to growth of Supermarkets
